Nature Study....

I see a trend...and you're right....BIRDS....
I love nature and lately I've started a small journal (about 3" x 6") where I "practise" collaging with whatever papers I have from my little box...
I carry a little green box with me these days...
I wanted to engage "art making" as much as possible...
if I had 10 minutes, I'll do some cutting
and if I had 20 minutes, I could paste down some pieces of paper
and as a result...

I had a couple more pages but I couldn't capture them sharp enough due to its size and the poor lighting as it is now about 9.30pm and my scanner is down :(..

And so I'll sign off with a quote from Katherine Hepburn

"If you always do what interests you,
at least one person is pleased".

Stay Happy!!

The Nautilus shell...

My husband loves the Nautilus shell and he collects them....

I've been wanting to present him with one on a canvas but it took me quite a while to pluck up courage
to create a piece of art on a bigger scale.... well, I finally did it and here it is.....

This is a 12" x 12" canvas board
The diagram is first sketched onto the canvas thereafter molding paste is used to create texture
Collaged vintage text at the base and layers are built with acrylic paints, creating the highs and lows
The original art piece has more vibrant colors of pyrolle orange, hansa yellow, burnt umber, titanium white, titan buff and a layer of gold glaze....

I've learnt so much through this experience, and will certainly do it again...

childlike faith...

This page was created with the "child" in mind...the child in us that is..
I want to remember the simplicity of being a child...

" Mindful and creative, a child who has neither a past, nor examples to follow, nor value judgements,
simply lives, speaks and plays in freedom"

Arnaud Desjardins

Simply trust....

The cutout on the far left is a tiger and it's matted on a gold cardstock. Pieces of gold leaf was placed
around the butterfly and the heart shaped card to unify the color "gold". The background was built with collaged vintage chinese papers and on the opposite side, pages from a poem in English.

In the past week, I've received 2 special packages from my postman..a pleasant experience indeed.

The first mail was from  a wonderful friend, Jeanne, whom I met when I was in Ann Arbor 2 years ago.

(mixed media fabric tag)

Jeanne and I met at a bookmaking workshop at the Kerrytown Bookfest in 2008. And since then we've been in touch and this is what Jeanne sent me..

The second package was from Marilyn; filled with a variety of papers for collage.
Marilyn was my swap partner for Lawendula's January paper swap.

Thank You, Jeanne and Marilyn!

I love the beautiful papers and little books you sent me....these will keep me busy in the next few days....

In closing, a quote I love from KRR (Kelly Rae Roberts)

" A friend is a present you give yourself"

Post Cards for love

This is a sneek peek of some postcards made for a swap. Ten individuals will be receiving them, soooo I'm saving the little surprise for them :)) .

Have a wonderful weekend!
